Description: A long braid of black hair hangs down her back, It can add a
schoolgirlish charm to her face. Motherhood has added a few curves to her
body that weren't there three years ago. Before Nadine at 5"7, Dayna considered
herself to be slightly on the slim side. Now, she's toned from spending her days chasing a
toddler, and relaxing through yoga and boxing.
Clothing: Usually in jeans and a sweater or t-shirt. Typical Mommy/college
girl wear.
She's also usually carrying a baby sling of some sort, so that Nadine can
crawl in and be held whenever she wants.
Personality:
To say Dayna's stubborn, is to miss the point. It is both her blessing, and
her greatest
failing. Without it, she could never have rebuilt her life, become a
dedicated parent,
and continue working towards getting her degree, and the life she really
wants for
herself and her child. And because of it, she's set in her ways, even though
she's still so
young, She refuses to join a pride just because she' and Nadine are weres
-and she
refuses to let Lunadain become an 'out of control' moment.
Somewhere inside of her is all the hoping, dreamy fragility that comes with
being in your twenties, but it's buried under the hardened necessity of staying alive
day to day. She's put her drive into being a mother and a student...to the exclusion of
almost everything else. Including an adult to adult sense of humor. Yet, to see her
with her daughter is to catch of glimpse of everything she could yet still be.
Abilities: Dayna is an alpha were; but she hasn't fully discovered
everything that
means yet. She discovered after giving birth, that she could form her body
to her will
(make herself taller, thinner, or rounder in certain places) with intense
concentration, but she hasn't done much with that. Nor has she ever tried to
prevent herself from changing near Lunadain or gone half & half. That form in
particular terrifies her.
Weaknesses: Usual were weaknesses. Terrified of half & half form. Terrified
in a way of the sexuality-communal atmosphere of Lunadain.' Gets anxious at the
mixed scent
of [male, were/cat].
Background:
Dayna was a college junior, in school in Upstate New York; a typical girl,
from a
typical Jewish neighbourhood in Long Island. During a college party, near
the end of
her junior year, she was drugged, raped, mauled and impregnated. She awoke
from a
three month catatonic state to find doctors deliberating about whether or
not to abort
her baby, because a full moon was coming and they were sure this time, the
baby would change.
She had absolutely no idea what to do. On one hand she was outraged, and
disgusted
by her pregnancy - on the other, she knew full well that the child didn't
ask to be
conceived this way. She spent two days, trying to get used to her limbs
again; long
enough to find someone to contact about the possibilities. The doctors in
the small city
hospital she was checked into, didn't want to take responsibility for
anything other
than *their* decisions.
It galled her to think, that she'd been made a victim once - by the beast
who raped her, and then again by the medical community who had caged her even when unaware
and
immobile- during her first full moons.
Knowing absolutely nothing about being a were, and still partially weak and
disorientated, she checked out of the hospital and found the nearest Fur-up
group to
be with for her first conscious Lunadain.
She's never gone back to a group since. Whether that particular grouping was
young,
inexperienced, a plain exception to the rule, or whether it was the fact
that her last
clear memories of life, were of the rape and she wasn't prepared for
were-community ... She just knew she didn't like it. And she didn't want her daughter
growing up in
it.
She went back home, where her parents welcomed her with open arms. Living
with them gave her the time to adjust to the reality of being pregnant; and
then, of being a
mommy. She soon discovered that on some level it was instinctive for her and
very
organic. She took Nadine everywhere. It was healing to have that sweet
little
human being to guide and to share experiences with; from sunshine to Lunadain
When Nadine was one, Dayna started researching going back to school to
finish up.
Her old college would have taken her right back; but it held too many
memories, and
they didn't have the necessary leeway to allow her to bring Nadine with her.
The U of
M at Sanctuary soon matched her old academic scholarship and offered enough
flexibility in class scheduling and campus living to make things seem
workable. With
her parents paying her room and board and the expenses Holiday/Vacation odd
jobs
mightn't cover, she's well aware that she's still luckier than most.
And it's because she feels so lucky, that she has such a hard time dealing
with the still
fresh fear, she faces, day and night, of the man who raped her.
