Drae

CHARACTER NAME: Drae (currently goes by Reiley Drae)
WRITER: Andria M.
E-MAIL: Ashalenn@juno.com
WRITER'S AGE: legal
CHARACTER'S AGE: irrelevant, though physically he looked to be in his
late twenties.
NATURE: Phouka (Fey)

DESCRIPTION: Drae has dark brown, curly hair which is cut short and curls at the nape of his neck, black eyes, and a mischievous grin. In his human form he stands 6' tall and weighs 190 pounds, with solid muscle underneath a delicate looking build. His animal form is that of a large wolfhound, with dark brown, shaggy fur and black stockings on all four feet, or a horse, in form which he resembles a shetland pony, again a dark brown with shaggy black socks. His eyes remain jet black in all forms. He's a clotheshorse, and has an outfit for every occasion (including the rare ones when all he wants to do is blend in). One day he might show up in jeans and a T-shirt, the next a carefully tailored suit, all depending on his mood.

PERSONALITY: Always ready to laugh and tweak the nose of those who "take themselves waaaay to serious", he holds a reputation as a prankster extraordinaire, for whom style and panache are the most important part of the prank. If it can't be pulled off in style, why, he just won't do it. He'll take a dare if it means he gets to show off, but is difficult to goad into doing something, especially if it isn't fun. He is the type never to walk when he could run, and is never purposefully malicious. Though given to fits of pique and annoyance, he is difficult to actually anger, but when it happens he becomes an implacable foe and his victims soon learn that pranks can be far from harmless. He's never developed a lot of patience, not having seen the need to.

ABILITIES: Ability to change from man-form to dog (wolfhound) and horse (shetland pony), normal fairy glamour and an ability to see through illusions that he's developed along the way.

WEAKNESSES: Typical fey weaknesses. Plus, he has a particularly hard time refraining from playing pranks on other shifters, whether they are lycanthropes or magical creatures. They tend *not* to appreciate it and he's gotten himself into hot water more than once.

HISTORY: Drae has spent centuries wandering between mortal Ireland and the Seelie Court. Staying only long enough in court each time to tweak a few noses and have a little "fun", he spent most of his time in the mortal realm. Despite his occasional visits to the Court, he maintains that he disdains it, as everyone is too stuffy and full of themselves and somehow has managed to avoid playing a prank on the wrong person. For many centuries he viewed humans as little more than toys to play with and experiment on, until in the early 14th century he found himself caught in a cold-iron trap while in dog-form. Freed by a young girl named Siela, but wracked by pain from the first wound he'd received from cold iron, he cautiously allowed her to bring him to her home and heal his broken paw. Intrigued by her, he stayed after he finished healing, watching her grow up, guarding her. When she was in her teens, he approached her in man-form and, pretending to be merely human, wooed her. To his astonishment, he fell in love with her and stayed with her until she died, eventually revealing what he was. Both she and her mother were witches who followed the old ways, though they were careful to hide it from encroaching Christianity and she told him on her deathbed that she'd looked into her crystal and seen they would always be together. Heartbroken at her death he went on a rampage, his tricks turning cruel and spiteful, swearing never to let himself feel again. Yet two hundred years later, he came across a girl and her beau, and was set to trap them, when he looked into her eyes and recognized the soul of the woman he had loved. Shaken he retreated and watched from a distance, daring after a few years to approach and try to woo her again, but in this life she had already married and possessed the sight, recognizing him for what he was and not trusting him. Eventually, they became friends that life, and she taught him more of human society and imprinted a little too much of human morality on him for his liking.
After that, though he still enjoyed playing tricks on people, he tended to avoid harmful ones. He found Siela two more times, the last in the mid 1700s when he helped her escape persecution from the church, which had branded her a witch and tied her to a stake to burn. The appearance of a dark horse galloping in and rescuing her certainly confirmed their opinion, but by that time the two had fled and taken a boat to America.
After she died that time he tried to return to Faerie, but found he fit in there even less, not being able to manage the expected condescending attitude to humans. He returned to the human realm and became a Robin Hood type figure, tricking (often viciously) the wicked and rewarding (well, sometimes at least) the good. All the time he traveled across the United States, hoping to find his love again.
Three years ago, in San Francisco he found her again, in the person of
Daria Jacobs, and their relationship grew. So happy to have finally
found her again, his worst problem was that he tended to be too
protective and smothering of her, worried that he would lose her again
too soon, always knowing that her life would be far to short before he
would be alone again.
He helped her at her work with the shelter until she suddenly decided
that they needed to pack up and head across country to a little town
named Sanctuary, based on a "feeling" she had. Having seen the results
of her "feelings" before he didn't argue. Besides, one town was much
the
same as another...
