 Age: 26

 Character Name: Kea Tempest

 Nature: Shape-shifter Peregrine Falcon

 Character's Age: 22

Description: Kea looks like an average 5ft 5" caucasian.
Tawny brown hair, tawny gold / hazel eyes. Sleek, almost
boyish in her appearance. Physically fit, and obviously a
hard worker, more than happy to do physical labour-anything
to get outdoors. She specialises in falconry, however will
do anything as long as it's legal. Kea has keen eyesight,
and a way of looking 'into' someone which is often
disconcerting. When she gives you her attention, which can
be difficult, she gives you her whole attention, her eyes
 piercing in their regard.

Abilities: Kea is a shape shifter. She can become a
Peregrine Falcon at will, she is not affected by the lunar
cycle, as a were is. Because the ability to shift is
originated by Faerie magic, Protectors have a severe
reaction to cold iron, similar to that of a were to silver.
Her sight, and hearing have both been enhanced to a large
degree, she is very agile, and strong. She's very
lightweight, her bones being lighter than normal, and thus
able to jump higher and leap farther than 'normal' humans.
This is a mixed blessing, as, with her lighter bones also
comes a far greater risk of breaking them. Kea is able to
heal herself fairly quickly though, similar to a were. She
can sense other shape shifters and weres, however has
difficulty knowing what animal they are. She can identify
other avian species and rats, however other species she can
only tell can shift or are were. However, were cannot tell
what she is either, other than a shifter. Alpha were can
identify her as 'avian' however not that she is Peregrine.

Personality: Kea is a loner by nature. Like the falcon she
shifts into, she prefers to work alone. Her idea of heaven
is a mountain range with no other people within. She's a
wanderer by nature, often unable to stay in one place for
too long, if she does so, she likes to change residences
or rearrange furniture to stifle her need for wandering.
She has a love for the outdoors, especially for the
wilderness. She holds most weres in high regard, except for
were-rats who she sees more as prey than allies. Because of
her tendency to keep to herself, Kea isn't known for her
'political correctness'; quite the opposite. She's often a
little too blunt and to the point, which has made for hard
feelings and several enemies in her past. Although she
angers quickly, Kea has a tight control on her emotions,
and is usually able to stop herself short of doing physical
damage. There has been the odd occasion though, where she
wasn't quite so controlled...She's prone to some degree of
selfishness, and is highly territorial, not only over what
she sees as her 'home ground' but also over people and
items she may possess. As such, her possessiveness has been
known to cause some sense of discord. She is a strong
defender of those suffering from injustice, however her
sharp tongue and youth don't always mean her defense is a
 good thing.

Background: Kea is the twelfth in what had been a long
respected line of Protectors to the Tempest family. The
power of the Protectors comes from a bargain made by the
first Protector, a young, sickly man who wanted to protect
his family when several bordering neighbours began warring
for more land. After several family members, including his
mother, were killed, the young man appealed to a Faerie
Witch ( a witch with enough Fey blood to be able to use
Fey magic) for help. Their family crest, the Peregrine
Falcon, had been passed down as a symbol of strength,
power, agility, intelligence and speed. He asked for the
ability to become like the falcon to help protect his
family. The Faerie Witch agreed, along with his promise
that not only shall he protect his own family, but also
others in unjust situations. This seemed like a fair and
even cheap trade to the man, and he agreed readily. The
true price of this trade became apparent when, several
years later, he was forced to defend his families enemies
against his own family when they began, in turn, to take
over the neighbouring lands. The struggle cause by his
inability to fight against his family and his need, through
the bargain, to help the young child of his family's
greatest enemy, killed him. Despite his ignominous death,
because of his ability to change shape, and the way he
turned the tide in their favour once more, all Protectors
have, since that time, been revered and even sometimes
 feared, by the family.

Kea, however, was brought up almost as an outcast. Her
uncle, like her, also able to shift into a falcon shape,
had been the family Protector for many years, until
disappearing suddenly shortly after her third birthday.
Since then, the family had treated her as if it were her
fault her uncle had disappeared. Treated almost as a slave,
she was beaten for imagined slights and insults, or for
work uncompleted on time. They refused to allow her to
learn her duties as Protector, professing that if one had
disappeared, another could do the same. On her 21st
birthday, she had been told to find her uncle.

Kea has now been searching for her uncle for a little over
14 months. Her task, thus far, has been fruitless. She has
come to Sanctuary, hoping that since Sanctuary was known
to attract many 'supernaturals' perhaps he had ended up
here. Since being sent on her mission, Kea has been
contemplating not returning to her original home.
